The division employs approximately 200 seafarers across its global operations and has core capabilities in the provision of vessels to Governments and industry for the following purposes: Marine science and research Antarctic expedition and resupply Border and fisheries protection Offshore oil and gas survey support
Vessels owned and operated by this business unit include: the research, supply and expedition vessel, Aurora Australis, for the Australian Antarctic Division the research and supply vessel, l'Astrolabe, for Institut Polaire Francais Paul Emile Victor and Territoire des Terres Australes & Antarctiques Francaises multi purpose vessel, Southern Supporter, currently on charter to Fugro in support of their geo survey requirement
Government Shipping Services also manages and operates four marine research vessels for three Governments: the national research facility, Southern Surveyor, for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Australia two research vessels, Celtic Explorer and Celtic Voyager, for the Marine Institute, Ireland with additional technical support services also provided the research vessel, Cefas Endeavour, for Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), United Kingdom on a fixed price operation basis with risk acceptance on utilisation of the vessel outside of CEFAS requirements
A southern fisheries and border patrol capability is also provided through this business unit. | |
